Quarter Bite
This trick has been performed many times by David Blaine on his television specials
Effect
A quarter or similar coin is borrowed from a spectator, and the magician bites it in half, leaving half of the coin in his mouth. He then blows on the coin, restoring it to one piece.
Props
A special 'Folding coin' is needed, available from most magic shops
Instructions
Have the folding coin palmed in one of your hands.
Ask the volunteer for a quarter or a 10p or 50p, depending on which folding coin you own, and take it using your empty hand.
Then, using misdirection, exchange the normal coin with the folding coin.
Take the coin up to your mouth and pretend to be biting it in half, when you a really folding over one half of the coin.
Show everyone the coin, which now looks like it has been bitten in half.
Next, pretend to blow the bitten off piece of the coin on to the rest of the coin you are holding in the hand, and release the folded back half of the coin.
Again, using misdirection, exchange your folding coin with the coin you borrowed and hand it around to be examined. |
